NOVEMBER 2006 NEWS

Comic book author goes back to the radio.

Comic books and the radio have long had a strong relationship, with many
characters either turning up on radio, or being mirrored on it. Most memorbaly perhaps was The Shadow, who to be fair appeared not just on radio, but in movies and books too, but you get my meaning.

Now Christian writer and performer James Bonner has created a comic book
series which has also become a radio serial - we haven't heard it, but it sounds like fun.

Bonner's series is known as 'Cold Steel' and is broadcast in three-minute
segments in a style said to be reminiscent of the classic pulp dramas - popular before the advent of television.

Bonner said that although he had always been a fan of comics he didn't think
about writing a comic until, living in Hawaii, when he was in need of money
to produce a gospel album

He said: "In 1995, I was in Hawaii and selling comic books. Those were my
prized possessions. We didn't have the money for a gospel album, so I decided to sell my comic books at the flea market.

"As I was selling them, God began to speak to me and told me I should do my
own comic book series."

By 2004, Bonner had completed three comic books, and it was then he got the
idea to turn the book into a radio show.

To date, Bonner and his cast have produce 120, three-minute episodes of Cold
Steel.
