Eyewitness - Acts of the Spirit
published by Headpress
Bob Luedke's epic retelling of the gospel story continues in Eyewitness: Acts of the Spirit, published by Headpress. As with the first book in the series, Luedke has pulled off the seemingly impossible, making a great tale out of something that has a huge danger of being very twee. The gospel may be the greatest story ever told, but my, we Christians know how to make it sound trite! Read more... |
Sophie and the Albino Camel –
by Steve Davies
Published by Anderson Press.
A charming and quite beautiful children’s book.
Truth be told, I wouldn’t have come across this book had it not been written by Steve Davies, aka Sahel Steve, a mission worker based in Gorom Gorom, Burkina Faso. Steve is an excellent writer, and has penned some very tasty travel pieces, as well as this delightful book, and his long running blog Voice In the Desert.
As well as Steve’s prose, which is at once interesting and evocative, the book carries great line art by illustrator Dave Shelton. Read more... |
Sadhu Sundar Singh, By Alec Stevens
Published by Calvary Comics
The wonderful thing about independent comics is that there is so much variety. Just within the Christian sub sector, you get a huge range of differing styles and stories, being told from all kinds of perspectives.
This is the first time I have seen a comic book version of an ‘inspirational biography’ – and I am glad to say it is both inspirational and fascinating.

Eyewitness - published by Headpress
A graphic novel by Robert James Luedke
Eyewitness is a great graphic novel. I think I always go into books likethis half expecting not to like them. But happily I was disappointed – what I mean by that is I was wrong. It’s very good!
Getting away from the tautology – lets look at the book. The story is about a scientist – Dr Harper, who begins the book as a sceptic of the stories about Jesus contained in the Bible – but through a series of events… well you can guess.

Sharply illustrated in full-color, BAD Girl in Town features realistic storylines and dialogue, and shares a solid biblical message with tween and teen girls."

Back in the mists of time, when we were just beginning with SAM119, we heard rumours about a Christian graphic novel, being produced by Steve and Jeff.
